Fresh, vibrant hair colour is always in style but even if you spend hours in the salon chair having a colourist tend to your strands, your colour can still be prone to fade. External aggressors like the over-use of heated styling tools, pollution and even the weather can all have an effect on your crowning glory. Not to mention your hair's health – if it's not fighting fit, it's not going to fight the fade.
Enter the new Moroccanoil Color Complete Collection; this collection takes a 360-degree approach to colour care, combatting all sources of colour degradation with an easy-to-follow regimen. It begins in the salon with the ChromaTech in-salon service, a two-pronged attack; ChromaTech PRIME, infused with ArganID™ is applied before hair colour application to increase colour deposit, and ChromaTech POST for after, which uses COLORLINK™ technology to help rebuild crosslinks in the damaged hair structure and traps the colour within. Plus, it forms a protective shield to help prevent hair colour washout. Then it's time for you to take the reins with a 3-step at-home routine to prolong your hair colour, including a shampoo, conditioner and daily spray.
The only way for us to really see if the Moroccanoil Color Complete Collection truly works is to test it out for ourselves. So we asked three members of the HELLO! team to give the in-salon service a go and spend a month using the 3-step at-home regimen to see how their hair colour fared. Here's how they got on:
The girl-on-the-goElle Sixsmith, HELLO!'s beauty writer: "Being on the go 24/7, my beauty ritual usually comes down to having to choose between hair or makeup and makeup always wins. My fine strands are left looking sad, straw-like and brassy as regular colour appointments go out the window in favour of a throw-it-up approach. "I've always had a no-frills approach to my mane maintenance, however one thing that has been a constant in my regimen has been Moroccanoil Treatment. It has saved my hair from near destruction many a time, but there's only so much an oil can do when it comes to colour fade. Which is why I jumped at the chance to be one of the first to try the Color Complete Collection.
"My colourist suggested super-fine multi-tonal highlights in honey hues for a sun-kissed feel – sounds dreamy. I left the salon armed with the new Color Complete Collection and the glossiest hair of my life. I was told to use the Moroccanoil Color Continue Shampoo and Conditioner for every wash and the Moroccanoil Hydrating Mask Light weekly for an intensive treatment. With my hair having a tendency to feel Sahara dry, I even added a few drops of the Moroccanoil Treatment to the mask and wrapped my hair in cling film whilst I watched TV.
"A month later and my hair has never looked so glossy and shiny. As it's so much healthier and hydrated, daily styling with the Moroccanoil Boar Bristle Round Brush has become quicker and more manageable and my daily battle with frizz has been halved. I was initially daunted at the prospect of adding even more steps to my already full beauty regimen, but with just a few extra minutes in the morning my colour has remained as vibrant as it did the day I left the salon. I've truly been converted and there's no doubt I'll be keeping it up for good!"
The busy mum-of-twoSophie Vokes-Dudgeon, Head of Digital at HELLO! Online: "As a working mum of two, something has to give, and usually it's my appearance that falls down the priority list. I hate that it's the case – I feel more confident in every aspect of life when I look my best. So when my colourist insisted that a daily dose of the Moroccanoil Protect & Prevent Spray could extend my hair colour for not weeks, but months – a colour in July might not need topping up until just before Christmas - it sounded too good to be true.
"The Moroccanoil ChromaTech services in the salon were glorious. They smell divine and I love how the oil works on hair to rehydrate and really sink into the shaft, rather than hang around on the outside and look greasy. Sure enough, my post-colour results were impressive - but who doesn't feel a million dollars after a 3-hour pamper sesh in a salon? The truth would really be seen in the following months.
"It took me a little while to get into the habit of using the spray every day. In the end I left it by my toothpaste so I remembered to give my hair a good spritz each morning after every shower. It definitely made my often-untameable frizz much more manageable, and the fact that it smelt gorgeous meant it so was no hardship to do daily.
"Every wash, I used Moroccanoil Color Continue Shampoo and alternated the Color Continue Conditioner with the Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask, as my hair can get quite dry. Hair treatments always seem a step too far when I'm getting ready for the school run, but my colourist had explained that if I applied it after washing my hair, and then washed my body, by the time I was ready to get out, I could take the mask off too, so it didn't really take any extra time at all.
"A month in, and the results have surpassed my sceptical expectations massively. As I inspected my hair this morning, my colour has remained vibrant and intact, still covering up the grey that has recently started appearing. Considering that an emergency messy bun usually becomes a necessity at 6 weeks post-colour it's really astounding. And my hair, religiously treated with two squirts of Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream and two squirts of Moroccanoil Treatment after each wash, has never been more lush and manageable.
"I consider myself incredibly low maintenance when it comes to beauty, so did question whether I'd even I'd be able to commit to a multi-product hair regimen and probably would not have done without this challenge. But if I can save the time (and money!) of a whole colour session between now and Christmas, by doing something that takes a few seconds each morning, I'm in!"
The beauty influencerAlex Light, HELLO!'s beauty influencer: "I've been dyeing my hair since the age of 16 (I'm now 30!) and while I've often left the salon feeling great about my colour, it's invariably a different story a few months in when toner wears off and I'm left with those pesky yellow, brassy shades that seem to haunt me. I usually end up throwing so much purple shampoo on my hair that my bathroom is now ever-so-slightly violet-tinged. So, I was beyond excited to hear about the new Color Continue Collection that helps maintain your look – and beyond excited to trial it too.
"The expert colourist explained that if I followed her rules to the letter, I would keep yellowness at bay. Sold – I left the salon with the creamy, illuminated hair I'd always dreamed of, determined to stick to Vanessa's guidelines and see if I could be just as happy with the look a few months later. She also recommended the Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo Light Tones for those days I haven't got time to wash my hair.
"Spoiler alert: I am. I'm not entirely sure if it's the Moroccanoil Protect & Prevent Spray that I have literally applied every single morning (even when time is of the essence and I just can't be bothered) or if it's the combination of all the different steps, but I still LOVE my colour! As you can see from the photos, the roots have grown out but there are none of the brassy/yellow tones that invariably accompany them. And all without any purple shampoo – not a drop! My bathroom might even look a bit less violet-y, which is just an absolute triumph.
"I'm truly delighted with the colour. I feel like a complete colour protection regimen is something that the industry has really been missing and I'm delighted that Moroccanoil has corrected it – I can't go back!"
