For most of us, our haircare regime consists of shampoo, conditioner and the odd hair mask.
But does your hair sometimes look dull or lacklustre despite using your regular products? It may be time to consider investing in a clarifying shampoo, as the formulas have been created to remove all build-up from the strands.
"A clarifying shampoo works to detoxify the hair and remove product build-up, excess sebum, hard water minerals, and environmental pollutants from the hair," Mark Woolley, hairstylist, founder and creative director of Electric London, told us. "It is great to be used before a colour service and before using a hair mask as it will allow the hair colour or hair mask to penetrate deeper into the hair shaft. Your hair will be left clean, fresh and healthy with a deeply cleansed scalp."
A clarifying shampoo can be used on all hair types, but dry or very curly locks won't need cleansing as regularly.
"For dry hair and very curly hair, I'd recommend only using a clarifying shampoo a couple of times a month, and for all other hair types it can be used one a week," the expert commented.
Some great options to check out include MONAT's Clarifying Shampoo, featuring a sulphate-free formula which detoxifies without stripping or drying, Christophe Robin's Clarifying Shampoo with Camomile and Cornflower, which can also help to revive highlights, OUAI Clean Shampoo, or Moroccanoil's Clarifying Shampoo, a product rich in argan and avocado oils, keratin, lavender, and jojoba extracts.
Once your shampoo is fully washed out of the hair, also be sure to use a hydrating conditioner or mask.
"I would recommend following up with a hydrating conditioner or mask to restore hydration to your hair, the Electric C-1 Intensive Treatment Masque is a lightweight, conditioning treatment designed to restore hair back to health. Full of moisturising lipids, vegetable proteins and wheat germ oil. Which locks in moisture, the masque will leave your hair supremely smooth and glossy," added Mark.
